Safety Training
Proper training is essential to ensure the safety of all personnel and maintain compliance with regulations. Below is an overview of the training requirements for all lab members:
Mandatory Training
All Tulane personnel must complete the following mandatory training courses via Bridge (employees) or Canvas (students):
- Hazard Communication
- Emergency & Fire Preparedness
- Portable Fire Extinguisher Safety
- Emergency Action Plans (EAP)
Additional Safety Training
In addition to mandatory training, lab members must complete safety training specific to the hazards they may encounter in their lab. These trainings are available via Bridge or Canvas.
Alternatively, lab members may opt for OEHS-developed training bundles, which are time-saving options for fulfilling additional training requirements:
OEHS Safety Training for Researchers Includes the equivalent information from the most common training modules needed by lab workers. We highly recommend this course to all research faculty, staff, and students. Powerpoint Slides

OEHS Bio Lab Safety Training Includes equivalent information to the Blood Borne Pathogens, Formaldehyde, and Respirators modules. This training is required annually for anyone working with those materials. Powerpoint Slides

These courses are available as recorded presentations. Completion of the associated quiz is necessary and required to receive credit for the training.
To determine the appropriate training for your lab members, refer to the Safety Training for Lab Employees Fact Sheet.
OEHS training bundles provide additional safety training but do not replace the mandatory training requirements listed above.
IMPORTANT: If lab members have completed OEHS training bundles, please email Marcel Charbonnet (mcharbo@tulane.edu) with their names and test completion dates to ensure their training records are updated in Bridge/Canvas.
Lab-Specific and Task-Specific Training
All in-person task-specific, job-specific, and lab-specific training provided to lab members by managers, supervisors and/or PI's must be thoroughly documented.
