DOT/IATA Shipping
Training and certification to both the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) by a "Certified Trainer" is mandatory and required by law for anyone who ships (packages, marks, labels, determines proper shipping name, determines classification, cleans containers, works on the shipping receiving dock, prepares the dangerous goods declaration, etc.) or is the immediate recipient of any hazardous good/ dangerous material from commerce (public highways or airways). This training is a federal requirement and non-compliance can result in fines and penalties.
The Tulane Office of Biosafety offers training and certification for DOT/IATA for Shipping/Transport of Dangerous Goods with a focus on infectious substances.
