Lab Safety Training

ATTENTION!

Due to the move of training resources to WaveWorks, some training modules may not be immediately available on March 20.  Please be patient as OEHS works to migrate and consolidate training with updated content to better serve the Tulane community.  Some OEHS webpages and resources still reference TULearn/Bridge and are being updated.  Please email OEHS@tulane.edu with any questions about training.

Note that Student Employees will now use WaveWorks to access training, instead of Canvas.  Canvas will continue to be available to students who are not classified as Student Employees.

Proper training is essential to ensure the safety of all personnel and maintain compliance with regulations. Below is an overview of the training requirements for all lab members:

Mandatory Training

All Tulane personnel must complete the following mandatory training courses via WaveWorks (Employees, Student Employees) or Canvas (Students who are not Employees):

  • Hazard Communication - OEHS
  • Fire Safety - OEHS

Additional Safety Training

In addition to mandatory training, lab members must complete safety training specific to the hazards they may encounter in their lab. These Additional Hazard-Based trainings are also required annually and are available via WaveWorks/Canvas.

All Lab Workers must complete:

  • Lab Safety - OEHS
  • Hazardous Waste Training - OEHS

Lab workers often engage in activities requiring these modules and may be required to take them if they engage in related work activities:

  • Bloodborne Pathogens - OEHS
  • Formaldehyde Safety - OEHS
  • N-95 Respirator Training - OEHS
  • Working with Dichloromethane - OEHS
  • Laser Safety - OEHS
  • Radiation Safety: Radioactive Materials - OEHS
  • Radiation Safety: X-Rays - OEHS

To determine the appropriate training for your lab members, refer to the Safety Training for Lab Workers Fact Sheet (Currently being updated for WaveWorks changes).

Please email Marcel Charbonnet (mcharbo@tulane.edu) with questions of which training to take or OEHS training content.

Lab-Specific and Task-Specific Training

All in-person task-specific, job-specific, and lab-specific training provided to lab members by managers, supervisors and/or PI's must be thoroughly documented.

Teaching Assistants

Any students working as Teaching Assistants (TA's) in Teaching Labs must complete Teaching Assistant Safety Training.
